Hypothetically speaking. . .lets say your binding didn't cover the
entire edge of some back braces because you stopped shaving them
down once the back was ringing like a gong. . .what would you do???

I'd probably try to get hold of some slightly taller binding material or else put some purfling under the binding - either way you could then (hypotheticaly) rout a little deeper. How mich deeper do you need to go to cover the braces ? Take this with a pinch of salt tho since I've only built one guitar. Looks good by the way |

Thanks guys. My server was under a big load last night, so that may be why the pic wasn't loading. Thanks for the tips too! My bindings are a bit shorter than the average 1/ 4" at .2", and the two braces in the waste of the back have an extra .1" showing. Do you really think purfling would help that? |

Go for the purflings, it will help cover the braces and spice up the look of the guitar. BTW, looks great thus far!

With a thin purfling line it'd look cool, If not I don't know what the tallest binding material is thats available but you could allways buy a back and side set of say walnut and cut off a strip to make bindings . You couls then used whats left over to make your next guitar

Hey guys, I've figured it out! I believe Peter's idea about using offcuts would be the most invisible. Thankfully I have some scrap left, but just enough to cut small patches. I'm going to rout a small section away from the braces with my dremel to fill with small patches. I'm going to set the depth to the same depth of my binding because my binding channels are shallow enough not to reveal any lining. I'd rather see a small blemmish than a spruce binding end. |
